“Give me books, French wine, fruit, fine weather and a little music played out of doors by somebody I do not know.”
John Keats
Wines of the San Juan Harvest Festival
We had an exceptional time at last year’s 2012-2013 San Juan Harvest Festival and can hardly wait to attend again next year. The festival is located on a vineyard in Turley, New Mexico in the San Juan River Valley. The vineyard is nestled among large old cottonwood trees that makes you feel you are stepping back in time.
There was a nominal entrance fee and we each received a commemorative wine glass which was also used for wine tasting. Wines available for tasting were reds, whites and blushes produced by their vineyard. Bottles were also available for purchase.
The live music was exceptional and drew you onto the dance floor. There were booths for artisans and a variety of foods. For the adventurous, tickle your feet while participating in an old-world grape stomp.
Find our more about their weekly events and wines at this link.
2013-14 San Juan Harvest Festival
Once again we had an exception time. There were new wines to taste that we felt were exceptional.
We were adventurous this year and participated in the grape stomp.
As part of the adventure contestants were asked to wear costumes. We decided to dress as Lucy and Ricki from the old television show “ I Love Lucy”. (Does that give our ages away?)
I did the stomping while my partner pushed the juice into a bucket. I never imagined stomping those little grapes could be such hard work!
Surprisingly, we won a gift certificate (of course, for wine) for our costumes. This was a memorable event we will savor all our life.
Salida Fine Arts Festival 2014
We finally made it to the Salida Fine Arts Festival this year. We lived in Arizona previously so were used to attending Art Festivals.
The art included photography, pottery, jewelry, wood carved bowls, hand made drums plus much more. There was something for everyone.
Durango Fall Art Festival 2014
The Durango Art Festival offers quality art items that are unique. Beside strolling along the street, you can listen to music performed live at the festival. Enjoy the Colorado blue skies, colorful fall leaves and wispy clouds as you take in the sights. There are booths for food and beverages. This festival has never disappointed us.
