Dona Silvina Fresh 2011, Malbec, Mendoxa, Argentina, ORGANIC GRAPES

We first tasted this lovely red Malbec at Jean Pierre’s Bakery and Wine Tasting Room in Durango.

It has become a favorite!  If you are familiar with Malbec’s this one will surprise you. It is very different from all other Malbecs. Very smoothe and flavorful.

Plum Loco wine

Plum Loco, Red Table Wine, vinted and bottled by Plumloco, Deming, New Mexico

This red table wine is very sweet and fruity. According to the vintner this wine “is bursting with old-fashioned black cherry and plum flavors.” We agree.  At times, we like sweet wines but this was a little too sweet for our taste. We do however give it a thumbs up for those of you who like a sipping wine for dessert.

This Merlot was first tasted at P.F. Chang’s restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona and  is a favorite. Rich  and full bodied with hints of black cherry and a velvety smooth texture. This wine is excellent for any occasion. It has a slight tannic finish.

Excellent for good conversation with friends,  a gourmet meal,  good book or perhaps a candlelight rendezvous with someone special.

Blackstone Merlot, California 2009

This wine is O.K. Best if served with a meal consisting of beef. It has a definite tannic finish, a bit stronger than we like. Not something we would serve to friends over conversation, but we would use it to make a good stroganoff.

Adesso, Romagna, Italy, South of Venice

This is a sweet red wine. It is a mixture of red berries and black berries. It has  low alcohol content due to its sweetness. We found nothing memorable about the taste of this wine, except for the very artistic Italian label.

There is an author named Clive Cussler who named one of his characters Gamay. The character was a smart, beautiful woman with red hair, thus, Gamay name refers to a red wine made from red grapes in Eastern France. Gamay grapes are the basis for many of the classic wines from France. This Beaujolais is one of those. According to the label this vineyard has been in production since 1725.

This wine is very smooth with just a hint of tannic finish. The flavor is full bodied grape with hints of other berries.  It has become one of his favorites.  He says this is a good wine for a first date leading to something more.

We found this local port much more enjoyable than the Port from Portugal. It is bursting with flavor with each sip. The winery states,

” This luscious dessert wine offers exotic aromas of black currant, violet, licorice, and spiced coriander. A Ruby-styled Port, the wine has a concentrated and expansive mouth feel, with a warm, seamless finish.” We both agree with the statement.

Blackberry La Boca, Wines of the San Juans

This time-aged Merlot creates a soft, round, supple texture, which is very fruit forward. Rich in blackberry aroma, this wine appeals to your sensory with its herbal blueberry taste. Once again, Wines of the San Juans has created a great new wine to enjoy on any occasion.
